Possepalooza

Posse will be hosting a variety show this Thursday in the Kiva. As the name implies, many different kinds of entertainment will be featured.

"There's going to be different acts," Trianna Braceful said. "There's going to be bands, poetry, rappers, and dancers."

The show has a $5 entry fee. All of the proceeds will go to the North End Soup Kitchen, located on Stewart Avenue.

The advertising table was located in the third floor of the UCEN.

Sit With Santa

Order of Omega hosted a sit-with-Santa fundraiser at the UCEN on Dec. 8. Those who donated a dollar or more then had their picture taken with Greek student Avery Jones, dressed up as Santa.

"My friend asked me if I wanted to do this," Jones said. "So I could meet some other fellow Greeks and [I] decided to help out for a good cause."

The fundraiser collected at least $30. The donations will go to the Eastern Food Bank of Michigan, a non-profit organization that stores and distributes surpluses of food to those in need. According to the organization's website the Food Bank partners with non-profits like the Red Cross and the Salvation Army.

Order of Omega worked with the Early Childhood Development Center on Tuesday, letting kids get their picture taken with Santa. The ECDC is a UM-Flint based institution with 15 employees.
"We thought it would be a cool way to get students involved." Omega President Laura Macko said.

Order of Omega is a Greek honors society. According to its website, the organization "recognizes juniors and seniors who have exemplified high standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership, involvement within their respective organization, and within the Greek, campus, and local community."

Cram-a-Cruiser

The Criminal Justice club hosted a Cram-a-Cruiser For Kids charity on Dec. 7 in front of the University Center. Toys donated to the Criminal Justice club were placed in the a police vehicle next to the Recreation Center. They will be given to the Whaley Children's Center. According to Whaley's website, it is a nonprofit organization that cares for children who have "suffered chronic and profound abuse and neglect".
This is the 2nd Annual Cram-a-Cruiser event the club has hosted. Last year, the toys were given to children of Motherly Intercession. Founded in 1999, Intercession is a non-profit organization that cares for children whose parents are incarcerated.
"This year we wanted to kind of a bigger organization, and someone shouted out 'Whaley Center'! " Club President Kevin Humphreys said.
People could also give monetary donations, which made up the majority of donations given. The club gave anyone who participated either hot chocolate or a soft drink. Participants also entered a raffle for a Kindle Fire.

Christmas Card Corner

People that went over to the Posse table on Dec. 6 would’ve been met with an interesting sight. Loads of art supplies covered the table while a stereo blasted out music appropriate for the season. The group allowed people to design their own Christmas cards. The cards could be going to children who will be spending the holidays in a local hospital like Hurley or McClaren.

“It’s turned out pretty well,” Posse member Trianna Braceful said. “They [the cards] look pretty nice. I think the kids are gonna like it.”

Posse member Stephen Kennedy agreed.

“That’ll probably be the best part about it, is actually giving the kids the cards.” He said.

The art supplies varied.  Participants were allowed their own choice of colored paper, ink stamps, glitter, and stickers related to the holiday season.

One of the non-Posse participants was Jasmine Willis, who has sent cards to members of military.

“I thought it was a good thing to do,” she said. “Those kids are lonely in the hospital and getting a homemade card will brighten up their day.”

The event took place on the third floor of the UCEN. It lasted nine hours. It took place Dec. 5 as well as Dec. 6 and the event may continue throughout the week.

Niche Blog Intro

Hello, my name is Christopher Jones, and this is my blog Christopher's Corner. Cheesy I know. In this blog, I will be covering Student Groups on the campus of UM-Flint. I'm doing this because student groups are a vital part of the campus community. Without them, we'd just do homework assignments and go home.

Red Kettle-Salvation Army

Theta Chi of the University of Michigan-Flint is participating with the annual Salvation Army bell donations. The red bell station is located at the front doors to the University Center, next to the Recreational Center. There fraternity members can be seen with the blue apron of the Salvation Army and ringing the bell.
"It's part of the season." pre-nursing freshmen Jeff Brown said. "We do a lot of philanthropy work as it is, so we decided to get out here and try to raise as much money as possible."
