Order of Omega hosted a sit-with-Santa fundraiser at the UCEN on Dec. 8. Those who donated a dollar or more then had their picture taken with Greek student Avery Jones, dressed up as Santa.
"My friend asked me if I wanted to do this," Jones said. "So I could meet some other fellow Greeks and [I] decided to help out for a good cause."
The fundraiser collected at least $30. The donations will go to the
Eastern Food Bank of Michigan, a non-profit organization that stores and distributes surpluses of food to those in need. According to the organization's website the Food Bank partners with non-profits like the Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
Order of Omega worked with the
Early Childhood Development Center on Tuesday, letting kids get their picture taken with Santa. The ECDC is a UM-Flint based institution with 15 employees.
"We thought it would be a cool way to get students involved." Omega President Laura Macko said.
Order of Omega is a Greek honors society. According to its website, the organization "recognizes juniors and seniors who have exemplified high standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership, involvement within their respective organization, and within the Greek, campus, and local community."
